A Real Christian Will Offend People
Genuine Christianity is Not Without Offense.
The only type of Christian that will never say anything “offensive” is a fake Christian.
Now, why do I say that?
There's a really bad idea that's become very popular, that what Jesus told His followers to do was to go out into the world and to love all people by accepting them, being tolerant of their lifestyles, and affirming them.
But Jesus actually said something very different. He told His followers to go out into the world and to love people by teaching them the truth, teaching them the precepts that He and God had established. And sometimes the truths of God come into contradiction with what is considered acceptable in our culture.
And according to Jesus, it's the responsibility of His followers to tell people they are not living in a way that pleases God, and that they need to change. This is not based on the Christian's own authority but based on God's authority. And so it is inevitable that a Christian, a genuine Christian, will eventually offend somebody.
Maybe you're somebody who often accuses Christians of being “non-Christian” for judging other people. Keep this in mind. It may not be that the Christian is being non-Christian. It may just be that you're misunderstanding what Jesus actually asked of His followers.
It's very easy to get tricked into believing in a caricature of Jesus, a false image of Him. Many people present Jesus as just this guy who went around loving people and never judging anybody, but that wasn't actually the true Jesus. In reading the scripture, you can get to know the true Jesus, to know what He expects, and to know what a genuine Christian ought to be.
