When Life Feels "Mundane"

As a woman with a restless heart and eager for the next thing, here is what I have been learning:

“Mundane” seems to describe most of our lives...It’s not a bad thing; it’s simply a fact.

If we are not careful, too often we dismiss God’s presence and power in the mundane because we’re looking for significance elsewhere...

We mistakenly determine so much of our worth in what we can accomplish that we forget the greater work that God is doing in the ordinary things of our lives.

If we stop and think about all the great figures in the Bible – Moses, Abraham, Joshua – most of their lives were spent in doing normal things, like tending sheep, making a living, and being a faithful follower of God.

But it was in the quiet, in the mundane that God was refining their character, training them, and preparing them for the work He had in store for them.

God is with us in every ordinary moment of our lives. If we claim Him as our Lord, then He needs to be the Lord of our mundane as well.

That means that whatever we do, we recognize His presence as we do it and do it unto Him. I heard a sermon the other day that encouraged me to say, “I am yours today Lord.”

And I need to be better at utterly those words...

Today as finished my run and noticed God’s beautiful creation around me, I just felt the need write this reminder: Lets not dismiss the ordinary and in doing so dismiss God. Let’s find joy in the fact that He is in the mundane, that He grows us in the mundane, and that we can still make much of Christ through the mundane.

When the #Christian #life begins to feel #mundane, may #God give us new #strength for old tasks and continued strength for the #journey.

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.” Colossians 3:23
