PRAISE THE LORD AND PRAISE HIM AGAIN (113:1-9):
Psalm 113-118 were used as part of the Feast of Passover every year.
Psalm 113 is pure worship.
The psalmist began, “Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord!
He wrote that God was to be worshiped “from this time forth and forevermore… From the rising of the sun to its setting” (113:2-3).
The Lord’s glory exceeds the heavens, and no one is comparable to Him.
God should be admired for His greatness, but another characteristic of His that makes Him worthy of worship is His compassion.
Though He is incredibly great, He still notices and cares for the impoverished and downtrodden.
He lifts the poor and needy out of their struggles and makes them princes.
He cares about women who struggle with childlessness, He honors them by making them mothers.
“Praise the Lord” (113:9).
APPLICATION:
Let’s try to remember to worship God even when we don’t need something.
For some of us, our worship is always accompanied by a request.
We pray to God and praise Him, but the only reason we remembered to pray and praise in the first place was because we needed to ask God for something.
You’ll notice in Psalm 113 that there is no request attached to the psalmist’s worship, He was just overflowing with a desire to tell God how great He is.
Its good to praise God along with every request we make to Him, but we should also praise Him purely for the sake of worshipping Him because of how good His nature is.
