BREAKDOWN OF PROVERBS - CHART

Breakdown of the Book of Proverbs - Proverbs 24

DEFINITIONS:

  • Partiality (24:23) – Showing favoritism towards one group or another based on personal bias.

  • Abhor (24:25) – To hate or be disgusted by something.

  • Nettles (24:31) – A prickly weed.

HIGHLIGHTED PROVERBS:

  • PROVERB #1:

    • Proverbs 24:10 – “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.”

    • Days of difficulty are the true test of strength.

    • A man can blabber about his strength all he wants, but the fires of adversity will reveal the truth.

    • Through trials, weak men are exposed, and strong men are revealed.

    • Knowing this, we should be doing our best to grow strong during the easy days, so our strength will not fail us when hard days find us.

  • PROVERB #2:

    • Proverbs 24:11-12 – “Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,” does not He who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not He who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will He not repay man according to his work?”

    • We should be concerned about rescuing those who are stumbling into trouble or even into death.

    • We should do what we can to help people who are in trouble.

    • If we are apathetic towards them, fane ignorance, or remain willfully ignorant about them, God isn’t going to be pleased with us.

    • Sometimes we pretend not to know about other people’s problems because we don’t want to be bothered by helping them.

    • When we say, “Sorry God, didn’t know anything about those people,” God knows the truth.

    • He knows when we know how to help someone but choose not to do anything about it.

    • This could apply to helping people avoid physical dangers or spiritual dangers.

    • Watching someone walk into disaster and not even trying to help them is a terrible way to be.

  • PROVERB #3:

    • Proverbs 24:13-14 – My son, eat honey, for it is good, and the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste. Know that wisdom is such to your soul; if you find it, there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off.

    • We all know how enjoyable sweets are to the tongue. Solomon writes that wisdom is sugar for our souls.

    • We should look for wisdom to feed our souls the way we search for a sweet delicacy to satisfy our sugar cravings.

    • Honey is also very nutritious, and it gives its eater lots of energy.

    • Wisdom has a similar effect on our souls, it sustains our hope and gives us a future.

    • A man full of wisdom is a man headed into a bright future.
